Why is Mambo popular?

Mambo! Does the word sound similar? No, I am not talking about the famous Latin dance that stepped in America in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The mambo that I am discussing about is the CMS or the content management system that is used to create and maintain a website. Mambo is really effortless to handle and can be managed with great ease equally by a tech savvy and a ‘non tech savvy’ user.

What is a content management system (CMS) ?

Content management system or CMS can be defined as a service that is used in order to provide assistance to the users in the process of content management. It helps to organize, monitor and finally publish documents and other contents like multimedia images. A content management system alleviates in the process of designing the documents jointly.

The web content management system that we know of can be defined as a type of content management system that has some added features that help in the process of publishing web contents to the various web sites.

Why mambo?

A study conducted in 2005 revealed that one of the most popular uses of Mambo is for personal or blog sites followed by its use in the portal sites and finally in the ecommerce and community sites.

The reason that I (in fact most people) prefer mambo to the other CMSs is that it does not need one to be well acquainted in HTML to manage the website. Its user friendly Admin interface with a point and click function allows even an inexperienced user like me to navigate with great simplicity – no need to know how to set-up or layout an HTML page! The mambo is there to do it for you. So what do you have to do? Just configure and handle the contents of the website from within the menu driven Admin Panel. Moreover, it can also help you in making template changes to your website, in handling your user database and even handling the online polls.

Mambo’s support team is extremely efficient. The product is undergoing a continuous process of modifications to become even better and easier. It has a very strong and effective online community that is ever ready to help the new mambo users. It runs on Linux as well as Windows platforms. And for all these fantastic benefits, you don’t even have to spend a penny. Yes! Mambo is available free of cost for all the users. This system has a GNU/GPL and allows its consumers make alterations according to their needs.

The drawbacks:
Though mambo has great features and very easy to configure, there are a few areas where Mambo needs some improvement.
* Mambo though has a set of default roles, customizing your own set is difficult.
* There is no version control in Mambo; hence it is impossible to go back to an earlier version of the page in case there are any major editing errors.
* Finally the admin interface that is provided is very packed which makes it slightly difficult for the new users to follow.
