Breaking News - Google Acquires DoubleClick.com

Came across some news this morning that is very relevant to all of us. This definitely needs to be shared. So here it is : Google has made another acquisition - DoubleClick.com - An all cash deal for $ 3.1 Billion ! This is part of a Press Release that came to the press late last night our time.
On its website DoubleClick says “Since 1996, DoubleClick has empowered the original thinkers and leaders in the digital advertising industry to deliver on the promise of the rich possibilities of our medium. Today, the company’s DART and Performics divisions power the online advertising marketplace.” However, for most of us DoubleClick was one of the earliest Affiliate Networks that we came across and remains so to this day, as most of the services it provides is targeted towards the corporate entities.
In my post a few weeks ago, I wrote how Google is going to release its CPA network soon (already launched in the US). The importance that Google assigns to its CPA network is now re-enforced with this acquisition as it is likely that Google & DoubleClick technologies and strategies will come together in making the CPA Network successful.
Apart from that, DoubleClick has a product (Dart Motif for In-Stream) and also has had a lot of focus on Video Searches in the recent past and has come out with some great research papers on Search Trends with Video. Not surprisingly, that is something that would have held Google’s attention given their own movement to introducing Video in PPC, Video Adsense and acquisition of YouTube.
Brings back something else that I have said in the past. Video is the way things are going to go, in the future.
Any other perspective on this Acquisition ? Any of you worked with DoubleClick ? Let us know here…
